Together you will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Facial Skin Rejuvenation Peel Program and determine the best treatment.

Prior to your skin rejuvenation treatment, don't forget to mention any history of viral infections, sensitivity to the sun, or prior skin treatments such as Microdermabrasion or Accutane treatments within the past six months.

A chemical peel is not a substitute for a facelift. It cannot eliminate excessive or lax skin. But in many cases, a chemical peel is performed in conjunction with a facelift or other plastic surgery procedure to obtain the best results.

Q: What types of peels are available?
A: The two most common chemical peels performed at Mausner Plastic Surgery Center are TCA and glycolic acid peels. Trichloracetic acid (TCA) Peels are deeper peels used to soften deeper lines and wrinkles, treat surface acne scars and even out pigmentation. The Facial Rejuvenation Treatment Program uses gentle fruit acids to exfoliate the skin, clean out pores, tighten pore size and stimulate healthy, young skin to flourish.

Q: What is the skin rejuvenation treatment like?
A: Your plastic surgeon can treat the face, neck, chest, hands and even the arms and legs. When the peel solution is applied, a mild tingling is felt on the skin. This quickly dissipates when the peel is neutralized. Both peels:

are performed in our office
require no anesthesia or needles
have no post-procedure discomfort
allow you to return immediately to your day-to-day activities.

Q: What should you expect after the skin rejuvenation treatment?
A: Reactions to chemical peels are similar to a sunburn and range from mild to more pronounced. Generally, the deeper the peel, the deeper the irritation. With the Facial Skin Rejuvenation Treatment Program (a.k.a. "Lunchtime" Peel) you can return to work immediately after and no one will be able to tell that you've just had a peel. The deeper TCA Peel causes some redness, and possibly some flaking for a few days.

Q: Any care required afterwards?
A: Because the Skin Rejuvenation Treatment Program is part of a comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation Program, following the in-office peel you will again return to the Daily Skin Care Maintenance products. Following a TCA peel you will need to apply Acquaphor to the treated areas. After 3 days you will use cortisone cream twice a day for 10 days. Moisturizers will be used to improve the look and feel of the skin. Following a chemical peel, your new skin will be tighter and smoother.
